Infrared Light Therapy for Horses

Photobiomodulation support for comfort, recovery, and mobility in horses (with additional support available for dogs where appropriate)

Infrared light therapy (also known as photobiomodulation) is a gentle, non-invasive approach that uses specific wavelengths of light to support the body’s natural repair processes.

Within my practice, it is used as part of an integrated approach to nervous system regulation and physical wellbeing — supporting comfort, mobility, and recovery.

Sessions are quiet, focused, and guided by the animal’s comfort.

Infrared and Near-Infrared Light Deliver Carefully Controlled Wavelengths of Energy Into the Body’s Tissues

Once absorbed, this light supports cellular activity — helping the body to repair, restore, and maintain healthy function.

The system used delivers a range of targeted wavelengths, allowing the light to reach deeper structures within the body, including:

• muscles
• tendons and ligaments
• joints
• connective tissue
• bone

This makes it particularly supportive for horses experiencing physical strain, injury, or reduced mobility.

Situations Where Infrared Therapy may be Helpful

Infrared therapy is commonly used to support animals experiencing:

• muscular soreness or tension

• joint stiffness or arthritis

• tendon or ligament strain

• slow healing wounds or tissue repair

• inflammation or swelling

• general mobility concerns

Each session is adapted to the individual animal and can be used alongside veterinary care where appropriate.

How Infrared Therapy Supports the Body

Photobiomodulation works by encouraging healthy cellular activity and improving circulation within the treated area.

This can help support:

• improved circulation and oxygen delivery

• reduced inflammation

• muscle recovery

• tissue repair

• joint comfort and mobility

By supporting the body at a cellular level, infrared therapy encourages the body’s own healing mechanisms to function more effectively.

Many animals visibly relax during treatment, as the therapy is quiet, gentle, and non-invasive.

How Sessions Work

Infrared therapy is delivered using a specialised therapeutic device that directs light to the areas requiring support.

By supporting the body at a cellular level, this approach works alongside the body’s own natural processes.

Infrared therapy is most often integrated within sessions, allowing both physical comfort and nervous system regulation to be supported together.

Part of an Integrated Approach

Infrared therapy forms part of a wider, integrated approach within sessions.

All work is guided by the individual animal, allowing the session to remain flexible and responsive to their needs.
